Nobody else wanted to eat offal so four of us shared:
#7 Chinese bacon steamed w/spicy flour *
#10 sizzling lamb with cumin spice **
#17 STiNKy! fried tofu
#35 fish fillet with Explosive chili pepper ***
#71 stir-fried ong choy w/garlic
#106 numbing Spicy cucumber *
I liked the stinky tofu. Got to eat the whole batch as nobody else wanted more than one piece.
The fish fillet (catfish?) was very good. It was like the West Lake Spicy Fish at China Village: the fried fillets are served in a huge pile of dried red chiles, but despite the *** rating they aren't actually super-spicy.
Numbing spicy cucumber was good but seems like mostly hot chile oil, just a hint of Sichuan pepper at most.
I don't know what steamed spicy flour's supposed to be like but I prefer the bacon with preserved mustard greens at Ton Kiang or Daimo. Cumin lamb and stir-fried ong choy I've had better elsewhere. So I'd order only two of the six dishes again. Seems like the kind of place where if you know what to order you could eat well.
I like the atmosphere, general goofiness, and late hours (midnight seven days). After they get their liquor license I'll go back with people ready to order blood and guts and raw squid.
