I am often a solo diner and many times I've had the waiter neglect to tell me the specials. The most recent occasion was last evening at the new Mastros in Costa Mesa, CA. I happily ordered from the menu, and while I was waiting for my dinner, heard my waiter describing several specials to a table of four diners nearby. The word "truffle" struck me.
Had a great dinner and great service, but, what?? Am I chopped liver? Am I not special-worthy?? What gives?
To re-iterate -- this has happened to me many times. Perhaps one of our waiter-regulars can throw some light on this topic?
