The talk of slow cookers made me wonder if I can use ours to make dulce de leche. I like to make several cans at a time so I have it on hand as I need it, but boiling the cans of condensed milk in water on a stove can be dangerous. My mother once fell asleep and had the can explode all over the kitchen. Fortunately no-one was hurt.
I think putting them into the slow cooker on High would be safer and easier, but I have no idea if the temperature will be high enough to caramelize the condensed milk, or how long it will take. If anyone has tried this, I would be grateful to know how to proceed.
