Sip Sak/Taksim follow-up

Alexandra Halsey | May 24, 2005 11:07 PM

After stopping in at both places during lunch, I decided that Sip Sak was more what I was looking for.

We got there at 7:15, were seated promptly, and had a wonderful dinner.

For starters we shared the bourek (filo "cigarettes" filled with feta), a falafel/hummus plate, and a special of leeks (which were essentially prepared vinaigrette). All were great--especially the leeks.

For dinner I had the lamb and bean stew. This was very good, although it had more beans than I think anyone could safely eat. The lamb was tender, and it was all served with a small bowl of buttery white rice.

One friend had the chicken shish kebab, which he thought was just a hair's breadth away from being underdone, but as such was tender and very good. The other friend had a lamb kebab, which was also enjoyed.

I had a Turkish coffee afterwards, and for dinner we brought our own bottle of wine.

By the time we left just about all the tables were full and the owner, who seems to arouse a lot strong opinions on this board, was seated at the front about to dig into some takeout sushi. Even while I saw him running the front of the house (supervising seating, filling take-out orders, etc.) I didn't see any of the strange or obnoxious behavior that people mentioned in their responses to my original query.
