I cannot begin to express how perfect our anniversary dinner was at Bouley. It overexceeded our expectations (and my husband is a former professional chef). We not only loved the food- but the service and atmosphere was truly amazing.
We dined on the tasting menu- and I cannot imagine going to this culinary gem and doing it any other way. We decided not to do wine, we started off with the house champagne which was great, and then moved on to martini's. I had the best apple martini I have ever had in my life- made with real apple puree- not the green apple schnapps.
The canape this evening was to-die-for- wish I could explain it but it consisted of beets (which I usually despise) marscapone, goat cheese and some other yummy ingredients.
We then both had the Phyllo Crusted Florida Shrimp, Cape Cod Baby Squid, Scuba Dived Sea ScallopAnd Sweet Maryland Crabmeat in an Ocean Herbal Broth. Simply amazing. This may have been my favorite course.
Then onto the Black Sea Bass with Porcini and Hon-Shimeji Mushrooms Green Asparagus and Mushroom Cappuccino Broth. This was so good and I was actually beginning to get full after this course (and all the amazing bread too.
Next i had the poached lobster and my husband had the Squab with Foie Gras. They also brought out a plate of potato puree (fancy mashed potatoes) which are among the best i have ever had.
And then the pear soup, the dessert, the petit fours- and on teh way out the door they said "happy anniversary" and gave us a bag which contained the most delicious loaf of lemon pound cake/bread ever for the next morning.
