Go Cubs!

When I arrived in town on Friday night, I asked each of my Uber drivers where I should watch Saturday's game. I had a notion of being close to Wrigley Field. But they all talked me out of it, saying that I might not be able to get a ride out when I wanted to leave.

So I picked Side Street Saloon from Steve Dolinsky's list of tavern-style, thin crust pizzas to check that off my list and because it was centrally located for us. I came here after happy hour at Bouefhaus. http://www.chowhound.com/post/happy-h...

We managed to get the last table in the back at 7pm.

We ordered a small cheese pie with half pepperoni, half sausage, and asked for well-done. Cut into squares, the tomato sauce has a savory, herbal flourish, sausage and pepperoni were good and the cheese had caramelized splotches.

The crust was not that thin, certainly not cracker thin. We liked the crisp, lightness of it, reminding me of biscuit crust in texture and buttery tone. The upskirt was not dark at all. The braided rim was a nice touch.

The saloon has three TVs in the back and one by the bar for viewing.

There's a different special each day of the week. I'd say the room was evenly divided between pizzas and hamburgers on the tables.

We enjoyed our pizza, beer and the neighborhood atmosphere here, feeling that we got an authentic Chicago experience. What a historic night!
