I drove to the new Giant on Sunday and I'm sorry to say I was unimpressed. The store is beautiful (even if it was the coldest grocery store I've ever visited), but the food looked like the same stuff that you'd find in the Hunt Valley Giant, just better dressed.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but I don't plan to go back.
I judge a really good grocery store by whether or not it inspires me to cook. Giant just left me flat. I actually packed my daughter back in the car and drove to Whole Foods downtown. Now THAT's a store that inspires. Heirloom tomatoes, purple potatoes, more herbs and fruit than you can imagine, not to mention the cheeses and butcher shop. It made me wish I had a hundred meals to cook that night so that I could try a little of everything. I left with a lovely rack of lamb for the grill, heirloom tomatoes, tuscan bread and goat cheese for bruschetta, and some artichokes. Mmmmm....Makes me want to go back today.
