i know this is my 3rd time posting about this place and i may sound like i own this joint but 'tis not the case. i had to once again write i had the BEST sushi i had at Shimizu last night. since business is picking up he's able to get more variety of fish and the quality is magnificent, i con honestly compare the o-toro and chu-toro with the best places in the city. i thought it was far better than jewel bako and comparable to yasuda and kuruma.
we also had the beef tataki which was hands down BEST we've ever had as well as the home-made pudding dessert. even if you just go for sushi please try those 2 dishes and if you don't like it then i'll never post on this board again...
Couple of pointers to fully enjoy Shimizu: please sit at the bar and let Shimizu offer you omakase. ask him to put the soy sauce on for you. it is a much higher quality soy sauce and accentuates the fish a lot better.
For 2 people, omakase including 1 toro scallion roll, 8 pieces of nigiri, a couple of service sashimi appetizers, beef tataki, and 2 puddings came out to $120 before tip. It's still BYOB so we had a bottle of Hakkaisan that we bought for $40 at Mitsuwa and had one of the BEST sushi meals of lour lives... and that's after our $350 yasuda dinner just 2 weeks ago...
anyway, this'll probably be the last time i'll post about Shimizu since it's now on citysearch AND time out and get a lot more press.
