I'm planning on taking an excursion around the south for the soul purpose of eating, and enjoying what I eat on the way. Home base is Knoxville, TN, and I'm willing to drive plenty far to get it (Especially if Lunch and Dinner goals happen to be a few hours apart, mmmmm).
Proposed locations: Nashville, Atlanta, Asheville, anywhere between, anywhere beyond within reason, and any other direction.
Desired food: Anything. How vague is that? Lemme narrow it down... I'd like to taste the best, cheap, local food around. I'm planning on budget dining partially out of practicality (I do not at this time have a money tree), and partially out of genuine desire for the food that will come with a $5.50 lunch.
I'd like to hear about the tiny, hole in the wall places that you've come across, the little gems- BBQ, southern cookin', Chinese, Thai, Cajun, *whatever*- I just want it good, local, and cheap...
So I ask of you: What are some inexpensive eateries worth driving to, and where are they?
I'm getting hungry already.
