I am four weeks into a diet designed to shed 20 pounds from my aging bod. I have lost five pounds so far, but mainly by avoiding going to restaurants except at lunchtime for a bowl of chicken pho or chicken cobb salad (skip the bacon, skip the blue cheese).
Last weekend it was time to venture out, and I tried to think of a Seattle or Tacoma restaurant where I could get interesting grilled fish and steamed vegetables or some similar low fat but tasty meal. Yes, I realize the higher end restaurants will always grill fish and steam vegetables on request, but are there any of you out there who have more experience trying to beat the oxymoron imbedded in eating out and being on a diet? Any ethnic restaurants with lower fat fare?
We ended up going to La Medusa Sicilian Soul Food and I had a delicious bowl of steamed mussels and a mixed green salad, he had the grilled grain crusted halibut with grilled polenta and vegetables. Granted, portion control is everything, but it is a heck of a lot easier to start with a plate full of lighter fare and be able to eat at least half of it than just a bite of higher fat foods!
