I've undergone a serious jones of late for old school tacos which I'm sure are "authentic" only in a Los Angeles, Southern California and maybe Phoenix sense. Still fellow foodies, I'm making an appeal for the classic Mexican-American taco: hard shell, ground beef, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, salsa.
My two faves thus far:
Malo on Sunset near Virgil
-The ground beef, cheese and pickle(!) were a revelation and like most of the menu, Chicano rather Mexican cuisine. Like a cheeseburger with a crispy shell. Amazing!
Tito's Washington Pl., Culver City
-I used to think these were terribly overrated until I rediscovered them again recently. Basically fried ropa vieja with good quality cheese and the best crunching hard shell known to this foodie.
I'm sure there are tons out there. I eagerly await your reccommendations.
Muy gracias!
