RE: SB this Weekend - Thanks for making me a Hero & my Report!

First of all, thanks so much to all that replied - just wish we had more time (& $$!) Someone directed me to a SB retaurants site (Nipper, I think) & that helped a lot too. My girlfriends were thrilled & every meal was delicious - not a single disappointment - how rare!

First of all, we stayed at the Radisson as a friend got us a good deal there. I was prepared for the worst, but it was lovely - we had a 3nd floor ocean view room with balcony that was just great - large nicely decorated room with mini-bar, coffee maker, etc. Room service menu even sounded really good - only disappointment was when we went to the bar & asked for a glass of their best white wine, it was Kendall-Jackson Chard! Decided against that & returned to our room for some rapidly chilling Rombauer.

Food - Lunch at La Super Rica was fantastic and I agree with Chris G, who said it's really what you order. The chicken & the tri-tip somethings were good, but not exciting, but the Especial with pork, bacon, pasilla chilies, the queso something, the tamale verduros and the guac were all totally memorable. Even the so-so things were made very exciting by the addition of cheese stuff, guac & salsa (I know, how American). and those tortillas - yummm!!

Dinner - Olio e Limoni. Had 8pm resvs, but weren't seated til 8:45. However, the hostess was very gracious, poured us wine to sit outside & sip & comped a dessert to make up for it, (on top of still being full from lunch) so, wasn't too big of a deal. Food & service were excellent once in. One of my friends used to live in Genoa & we were all amazed at how authentic & delicious the food was. Appetizers - Carpaccio di Bue & 2 specials - mine was a special buttery soft buffalo 'burrata' mozzarella with roasted tomatoes, eggplant, onions, etc that was wonderful. Only miss of the evening was
'fresh white anchovies' - didn't taste all that fresh & nothing like what I've had in Italy. Main courses - all specials - delicious sea bass, very good eggplant ravioli & I had the best, (lucky me!) a spaghetti with that shaved compressed fish roe (what is that called? driving me nuts I can't remember), breadcrumbs, etc. - really delicious & just like the old country. Dessert - a chocolate bread pudding with carmelized bananas on top - yumm. Had 2 (oops!) bottles of a white wine they suggested from Sardinia - began with a 'V' & was very light & an excellent complement to the food - and only $28/bottle. Dinner for 3 w/ tip & wine & coffee came to $200. Walked home 3 plus miles to the hotel after dinner & still felt full.

Breakfast - Mousse Odile - Darling, great server - I had the scrambled eggs with creamed spinach in pastry shell, which wasn't the best choice, but friends had excellent Mexican & Ratatouille omelets. And those potatoes au gratin - great! Bread was fresh, jam wierd, but yummy & bloody marys strong!

Lunch - skipped El Encanto as still too full, but went to look at it the next day - beautiful views & setting. They were serving Floating Islands for dessert - haven't seen that for a long long time!

Dinner - Chad's - What fun! Only complaint would be their wine list, but otherwise, just great. Darling restaurant in old Victorian home, friendly staff, fun bar, all food excellent. Had Blue Point oysters (probably weakest link as served only w/ cocktail sauce, but still good), Greek salad, & the Charr-achoke. Entrees - Osso Bucco (good, but accompanying risotto even better), grilled lamb loin (very good) and, best of all, the Chad's Filet Mignon. This steak had the most delicious sauce & the meat was great - almost like Mexican beef in taste - really meaty & we all kept stealing bites. Nice Creme Brulee for dessert (free as we had a Bday girl). Dinner for 3 w/ a $45 bottle wine & tip - $190. I would really recommend this for fun people-watching and great atmosphere/good food. We were warned of a conga line led by a man in a banana suit, but gratefully, nothing like that occurred.

Drinks before dinner Friday at Epiphany - just darling & food looked great. We felt a little old (40s in a 20s crowd), but fun to watch all the young things. Drinks after dinner Saturday at Firebird on Cota - neat bar.

Breakfast - Cajun Cafe on de la Vina & Mission. Had the spicy (they are not joking) sausage "French Quarter" omelet - wow - cleared my sinuses & loved every minute. Oh, good fresh squeezed OJ too. Don't know the bill, but it was reasonable & everyone in restaurant seemed very happy with whatever they ordered & all looked delicious. I love that Cajun garlic sauce & seasoning salt they have on the tables - really great on the hash browns too! Very casual.

We are all very jealous of you SB locals - what a great weekend - can't wait to go back & try the Wine Cask, Paradise Burgers, Downeys, Sage & Onion, a beautiful Mexican courtyard restaurant behind the Wine Cask (any reviews?), the Palace & others (will still do a daily lunch at Super Rica, though!)
