I had lunch today at Old Europe, a swell German restaurant here in DC. It was my first go around at the place, and I had a tasty pork loin served with the best sauerkraut I've ever had. It was unlike the bagged or jarred stuff I get around here, and am on a mission to find a recipe for it. I Googled sauerkraut, German recipes, authentic, but came up with nothing.
The version I had today was much more tender, almost mushy, than the standard stuff I'm used to. It was also far less sour, and was flavored with cloves and I believe juniper berries. When I bit into one, I swear I tasted gin!
Any recipes or sources of good ones would be appreciated.
