Sauerkrat

I had a jar of German sauerkrat, unopened and sealed that I have had for several years. I opened it and it doesn't smell bad and it is not discolored. I tasted it and it is not real tart but it doesn't taste bad. Is it still good although it's been in the cabinet a long time?
