Saturday Lunch at Zuni

Frosty Melon | Mar 7, 2005 11:16 AM

I found myself hungry on the F line trolley Saturday afternoon and whizzed past Zuni. I noticed a single open table outside and decided to treat myself on such a nice day.

I told my server I wanted the burger for sure, with gorgonzola, and that I wanted to start with three oysters. He offered to "surprise" me, and I obliged. He chose three sweetwaters from British Columbia and they were terrific. (I wondered if he'd choose on the pricier side, but he stayed within $1.75 - $1.95). The burger (ordered medium) was also very good. For me, the thing that makes this burger are the red onion pickles on the side, that I immediately add on to the meat. Plus, I like the extra kick in their ketchup.

Service started out perfectly but after my burger arrived it worsened. My second drink was ordered before the burger arrived but was delivered just as I was finishing. The server acknowledged the delay and comped it. The table next to me had to go inside to request the check. After waiting awhile, I did the same. (Granted, it was around 3 pm and servers were switching shifts.)

Total was $34 including tip. I was tempted to go back for the same meal yesterday but refrained. But I will certainly go back. Soon.
