Since I have had a string of bad luck at NYC restaurants lately (Les Halles, for one), I was pleasantly surprised at the friendly, competent service and satisfying food at Artisanal.
Both hubby and I enjoyed their satisfying, hearty lamb cassoulet. A hint of spiciness in the dish warmed us up on a cold, grey winter day. What's more, we were quite full from the portions -- no need to add appetizers or desserts.
Also had a French red from Artisanal's "Exotic Wine" list. Took a chance on this wine --neither of us had ever heard of it. Boy, was it good. (Tasted like a cross between a Cotes du Rhone and a spicy Shiraz.)
Service was friendly as well as competent from beginning to end. Our waitress was a sweetheart.
Nice young crowd. Looked like quite a few regulars who work around the area.
We were curiously checking out others' dishes: all the cheese-related items (fondues, their macaroni and cheese) looked scrumptious.
Overall couldn't have asked for a nicer experience...hope to have plenty more like these. (Want to try JARNAC, as well as the tasting menus at BOULEY and ANNISA soon...)
Happy Eating to All!
