I went to two of the popular places in the past couple days. Finally got something more than a cookie at Hi Rise on Huron Ave. Interesting combinations there, I had a relatively tasty portabello mushroom, caramelized onion and swiss on grilled Concord bread. It maybe needed a little salt. $7.75 seems pretty expensive, they could throw in some chips, a dab of cole slaw or potato salad to make you feel like you're kind of getting your money's worth. I think they could consolidate their baking area to make more room to sit, very crowded.
Stopped at El Oriental de Cuba in JP, only my 2nd time there. Got a cubano to go, I think they forgot about me til the cook motioned the waitress about "la senorita's" bag that was packaged and ready to go. That's a tasty sandwich if you're in the mood for the pork and ham combination. The bread is yummy altho this seemed less obviously pressed than others I've had/seen. Normally I'd get two meals out of that $4.99 sandwich but last nite I ate the whole damn thing, half on the way to voting, half at home. I'm just thankful they didn't repeal the income tax.
