OK, I know I'm in for it now, but we met with the kids for dinner at Sajna after work yesterday. I know, all the hype is about the buffet, but this place seemed like it was from another planet. How could they excell at lunch time and fall down at dinner?
I overlooked the fact that they hadn't changed the tablecloths since lunch, since we were able to find one with only a small water stain. Service was awful. I shared a veg.pakora appy with Dtr #1, while #2 opted for one on her own. Only one of the pakoras came, and #2 waited for at least 15 mins. for hers. Instead of being small pieces of veg. dipped in batter and fried, they seemed to be shredded vegs. put together w/ batter. Had a somewhat rubbery texture, but the seasoning was nice. DH wanted vegetable samosa, they were out, so he went for the chicken samosa, and was very happy. Drinks came when we were finishing our entrees. DH and I both had tandoori chicken, which was very flavorful, but just this side of cooked enough - still a little slippery at the joints, which was unnerving. #1 had the palak paneer, which she reported as "OK", but declined to take her leftovers home. #2 had the butter chicken, and seemed pretty pleased. The rice seemed like instant rice to me, although it was seasoned nicely. The one big plus was the bread; we ordered onion kulcha, paneer kulcha, and they gave us a naan on the house, all of which were superb. This place was definitely not worth a drive for an hour in rush hour traffic. I will do my best to try the buffet some time, because all the other posts have left me intrigued, but I'll never show up for dinner again!
