Whole Foods market is it. if you like to cook and like organic, fresh, foods this is the place. 20+ kinds of sesame oil! mangoes 7 bux a box!!!!!!! I have never been to this store before...but I will certainly return. All my dreams will come true...
Next door is a recently reviewed (Sac Bee) chinese restaurant, Mandarin. Great bar, (try the mai-tai's!) full house and friendly staff.
Our order was hot and sour soup, Pot Stickers, Mandarin special seafood (shrimp, scallops, calamari)in a black bean sauce and egg foo young.
The food was incredible. The flavors were very complex. All the dishes were the best I have ever had. the pot stickers were delicious, with a perfect doneness and sweet filling. The soup was just that, hot and sour. It was hot and sweet and chock full of the usual ingredients. The egg foo Young (something I never order) was extrordinary. Covered with a delicate sauce and mushrooms these were the tastiest version of this dish I have ever had. Nothing like I have ever had this dish. The seafood mandarin was on Hong kong style noodles ( I love that!) and had huge chunks of scallops ( I love that too!) and big shrimp that were done perfectly with a liberal amounty of Calamari in the exactly perfect amount of sauce. easily the best chinese food I have ever had. Every dish had very complex flavors and the chef took great care in preparation. The staff was wonderful. our glasses were never empty (and that is important with the H/S soup). Just perfect.
I may never go to my chinese place down the street again. or to Chinatown for that matter. Except for dim sum this is what chinese is all about.
