I knew it was a former drugstore on the corner of 45th and Spruce. What I didn't expect was a fully re-created experience of being in a drugstore of yesteryear. Loved those purple bottles on the shelves, the old scales, and the ceiling fans. Great ambience.
And, the food again was a pleasant surprise. Wide choice of unusual dishes. My appetizer, Italian truffles on a sort of angel-hair pasta was wonderful. Never had truffles in slivers that crunched and exploded with flavor. Chose an exotic type shrimp dish, with only 3 huge fellows in the shell, citrus marinated veggies, fried shallot circles. Seriously good, if a bit small in portion size. Cadged an extra corn pudding, which had enough jalepeno peppers to give it oomph. Desserts were all yummy--a fresh peach pie hit the spot; my husband's tiramisu disappeared too fast for me to get a taste. Serious Columbe coffee in huge metal cups. Quite a meal for $25.
Bathroom was a trip back in time--including old stand-up physicians' scale. Nice antique touches. Service was outstanding--friendly, competent and patient. Only caveat was the noise level. But, it was friendly, family noise, not alcohol-fueled. A find.
