Roast Pork old school Chinese style

For those who are older, grew up in San Francisco and ate roast pork at the old Wuey Loey Kee in the basement on Jackson and Grant Avenues. It's back!

The pork had crispy skin and well seasoned and there was a lot of it. More than even a Chowhound can eat. When they change ownership many years ago I was sure it was gone forever.

Well last Thursday, when I attend a business meeting in San Francisco I stop at Mariposa Cafeteria on the recommedation of a friend who said that this was old school Chinese roast pork like we had at years ago. I was told to get it to go and the order would be five pounds. He was not far off, the order had a pound of rice, 1/2 a pound of cabbage and a pound of roast pork. The skin was well seasoned and crispy, the meat was done perfect and moist.

They were filled with City workers. The order was $6.50 and there was food enough for two people. My son and I was barely able to finish it. But the only drawback I will never be able to face my Doctor again. Also on Thursday menu was oxtail stew. I need to get to the city again soon.
