This place used to a Guedo's taco stand, but changed over to another name about a year ago. So I made the trek there with a girlfriend, yesterday.
The place looks the same, minus the huge salsa bar that Guedo's is famous for.
The first thing I noticed, was how Freakin' HOT it was in there. My god....they have a swamp cooler....are they NUTS....in Arizona? The a/c in my car is colder than the air inside.
Other than it being uncomfortable, The food was surpisingly good. Our waitress left much to be desired. Now, granted, 3 tables walked in at the same time, but she had obviously not been a waitress very long. She got confused about our order and never checked on us during the meal, but again, the food was rather good.
The menu had quite a few options. They had a mole dish, a couple fish dishes and of course your regular, Mexican fare like enchildas and tacos.
I had the chicken flautas with sour cream and guac.
The chicken was nicely seasoned and the flautas were fried just enough to make them crispy without drying them out. The guac was creamy, tasty and smooth. I'm very particular about my guac, and this place passed the test.
My friend had a the chicken chimichanga. The only problem with it was that is was covered in this red sauce....however the menu didn't say that. So it had to be remade without sauce...which took some time.
When it came back minus the sauce, it was also good. I guess a flauta is pretty much the same thing as a chimi, only smaller.
so all in all, the food was good, the temperature level was warm, and the service slow. This is a great place for take out. Maybe when it cools off a little, I'll go back...it's just too hot and uncomfortable in there right now.
