Much has been said about this place and it's a hound favorite for a reason. I hadn't been since the relocation and remodel and the new digs are really cheery and super clean. But of course, it's about the food and seriously we were blown away by what we had last night.
To start the beef heart with potato (thanks for the suggestion Nab) was outstanding. Bold beefy flavor and chewy texture. Yum to the yum. Then our ceviche pescado, Jalea, and Montaniero arrived and we went to town. I hereby declare their ceviche to be perfect. We ordered it picante and it was pretty spicy but not so that you couldn't taste the lime soaked fish. I like the pescado better than the mixto (which has calamari and shrimp in addition to the fish) but if you are with a bigger group you should get both to compare. Jalea is a mountain of fried seafood, the Montaniero is a typical plate of grilled beef, rice, beans, a fried egg, and a huge chicharon big enough to share. The papa relleno is stuffed with meat, olives, raisins, boiled egg. Every bite I had last night was great and the whole table just kept oohing and aaahing over the quality of the fish, the expert fying, and that green sauce that I could mainline.
The bar next door has a decent selection of Rums and Tequilas and friendly staff and patrons. RL serves wine and beer, but stick to the beer. A 5 minute walk to Wood Island T and ample parking outside.
