Until now I've mainly been a lurker on this board, but this past weekend I tried a cafe that has not been mentioned here so far: Ten63 in Long Island City. We read about it in Time Out and decided to try it out on our way to MOMA over the weekend.
The rundown: They have good espresso drinks. That means if you like brewed coffee, you'll be drinking cafe americana. As a brewed coffee fan I was a little disappointed in this, although the espresso was good, as were the lattes.
They have decent scones, etc. Nothing earth-shattering, unless you consider the fact that this is Long Island City. Apparently the owner is connected to Relish (the Williamsburg diner).
We also tried baked eggs (good) and stuffed french toast (excellent, but the portion was way too small).
The decor is clean, loftlike, and airy, with some cool art hanging on the walls. Service was friendly enough.
Ten63 is on Jackson Avenue near the 7 and G trains. I don't get to LIC often but it seems like a great addition to that neighborhood. It's definitely worth checking out if you plan on being in the neighborhood.
