New Restaurant Update Jovito's - Kansas City

Fellow Chowhounders,

I noticed a new restaurant in the 'hood last week, stopped in and got some carry out for the family.(going out with 4 kids to a new restaurant, not a challenge I want!) Jovito's Restaurant is located about 123rd & State Line in South Kansas City, in the same strip center as Happy Hollow Liquors and Papa John's Pizza, just south of McGilley Funeral Home.

We ordered the Pasta Trio (Mostaccoli, Lasagna and Ravioli), Large Green Salad with House Dressing, Pepperoni Calzone, Italian Sausage Grinder and Spedini Chicken Wings.

The Italian Sausage Grinder was probably the highlight to me. Excellent Tomato Sauce with bite sized Italian Sausage Pieces (homemade?. The melted cheese made the inside a unique orange-red color, baked inside of an italian loaf. It was still very hot even after the trip home, at least 30 minute delay.

Pasta Trio, went over well with my wife, I tried only the mostaccoli, the Lasagne and Ravioli were long gone when we got to them.

Calzone was perfect for the kids, absolutely loaded with spicy pepperoni, flavorful sauce and good crust.

Spedini Chicken Wings were adequate for the kids, they were not hot by the time we reached home. The bread crumb spedini type was good for the kids, not spicy.

Large Green Salad was nothing really special, but they definately did not skimp on the ingredients, so often you get a green salad that is "straight out of the bag", this was much better than that.

The meal was very reasonably priced, under $28.00 for the entire meal, very fair.

Small shop with limited and close seating, carry out will probably be the best option for us. No table service, order at the counter and they bring you your food. Nice people.

I hope this place does well, we need this type of place in the neighborhood!
