The new restaurant (formerly a series of Irish pubs) on the corner of Skillman and 46th Street seems to be almost finished. I walked by there about a week ago and spoke to a person working on the front door. He told me that he was one of the chefs, that the cuisine would be American with other influences -- Spanish, French, etc. and that he thought the restaurant would open around December 12th. It looks quite nice inside (a bar, lots of wood, nice lighting)and we can only hope that the food will be good and it will be a positive addition to Sunnyside. Outside of the few pubs around -- Chinese take-out, pizza places, the Roumanian Garden (VERY disappointing the one time I went there, unlike its predecessor Cornel's Garden),El Shatar, etc. there really is nothing of any quality in this part of Sunnyside.
The property was apparently bought by a local real estate broker and it was her initiative that has transformed it into a genuine restaurant. We look forward to reports of it after it opens.
