Report Back - Sin Cafe/Wine Bar - Omotesando

Last night I met a friend at Sin for dinner and wine. I was not impressed.

We ordered 6 dishes between the two of us, enough for a good sampling.

Roquefort and Fig Crostini
Cloyingly sweet, although my date really liked it. Surprisingly, the fig overwhelmed the cheese.

Sardine, Capiscum and Spinach Crostini
Not bad, good fish but completely lacking in pepper flavor.

Beef Carpaccio
Highly disappointing. The meat was rare roast beef, cooked perfectly if I wanted a sandwich. Unfortunately I ordered carpaccio and not roast beef slices.

Zucchini Pancake
Large zucchini cake wrapped around raw spinach with a side of cold brie and a tiny roasted tomato. The pancake was dry and needed salt. We left half the dish sitting, no one wanted to finish it.

Smoked fish with Black Olive Blinis
The blinis had been pre-cooked and were dry. No olive flavor at all even though the black chunks were clearly visible. The fish was good, served with a sour cream based sauce. I think it was a mackerel or some other medium oily large white fish.

Fish Ravioli with Spicy Tomatoes and Orange Oil and Zucchini
The ravioli weren't bad. They were full of fish and were nicely seasoned. The orange oil added a little sweetness, but the spicy tomatoes were bland and what could have been a good combination just didn't work.

I do not recommend this place for dinner. The wine list is huge however, so it may be a good place to have a few drinks if you know your Italian wines (which I don't). If I end up going back, I'll stick with what the table behind us did, order the proscuitto and cheese with bread and lots of wine.
