A while ago I asked you all about what to make for a 8 year's cooking bday party. I thought I give a quick report of what happened.
The party was today, just ended a few hours ago in fact. 9 eight year girls, one mother and one teenager as helper, and me as the chef/demonstrator. Our menu was pasta with home-made marinara sauce, cheese garlic bread and decorating orange vanilla cupcakes.
I divided up the girls into four teams and they all got to participate. With close supervision, everyone chopped garlic, torn basil leaves, mixed butter and seasonings, made sauce and the bread. Not having kids of my own, I under estimated how much noise nine girls can make. But everything went as planned and no one hurt themselves and they all liked the food.
Each girl had two cupcakes that can decorate with colored frosting and sprinkles. I then used a pipping bag and wrote their names on the cupcakes for them.
All in all it was a really good experience. The Mom was happy with my service and the kiddies seemed to have had fun. And I made a few extra bucks. Not bad for a few hours worth of work!
