how to remove scratches in aluminum baking pans

pianoplayer | Dec 17, 201005:36 PM

I have a wonderful set of Lincoln Wear-Ever 5303 aluminum baking pans. I loaned them to a friend who baked bar cookies in them. Unfortunately, she cut the bar cookies with a sharp knife that left a grid of scratches/gouges in the pans. (Grrrrr...)
What is the best way to go about removing the scratches? Can they be polished out (cream of tartar? steel wool?), or am I stuck with scratched pans? I've tried polishing with a cream of tartar paste, and that didn't do much, probably because the scratches are so deep.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
