Remarkable Lunch at Spago!

Kara Elise | May 4, 2002 04:33 AM

A perfect lunch. Mixed greens salad with crostini, smoked salmon pizza, and the Szechuan filet. Every one of them could not have been made any better.

Sevice was impeccable, though I later realized I had been the guest of one of their best customers... But the place was teeming on this Friday late lunch, and service seemed fine at all tables. We were served complimentary drinks at the bar, as we were 10 minutes early for our 1:45 reservation, and !! the table wasn't ready for 10 minutes!; offered complimentary additional drinks; served complimentary desserts and complimentary additional coffees..... The raise of an eyebrow brought one of five servers scurrying over; maitre d' Johnny, had a constant eye on the table. Granted this service was a bit over-the-top, but no matter the company, service is always excellent here.

Oh, and was that Szechuan filet ever succulent!

I, like probably many of us, tend to enjoy going against the grain, hounding out unfound culinary treasures. But once in a while I must reluctantly agree with the masses, and Spago is definitely worth its salt!!! As a former restaurateur and prototypically critical Virgo, asked what I would change, I couldn't think of a thing!
