Recs, pls for trip to SF w/ child

My husband, my 3 year old and I will be in SF for vacation the end of June and I'm starting to think about restaurants. We're staying at Hotel Monaco in Union Square and will NOT be renting a car. I'd like to go equipped with a list of likely restaurants. Walking distance (son in stroller, if necessary) would be great, of course. Easily accesible by public transportation or a not preposterously expensive cab ride are also fine. We like all sorts of things, but Japanese or vegetarian don't tend to be our first choices. We are NOT looking for the sort of "family-friendly" restaurant whose biggest appeal is that the food is edible and no one cares if your toddler has a melt down. We are looking for delicious food at places that are either (1) casual enough that they draw a lot of families or (2) willing to be pleasant and polite about my well-behaved son, even if they don't tend to get a lot of kids. We take my son out to dinner most Saturday nights and he does very nicely at 6 or 6:30 at places that don't generally get little kids. Lack of booster seats and/or children's menus is no barrier.

Also, any thoughts on breakfast near the hotel, either of the eggs/pancakes/waffles variety or the latte/muffin/coffee house variety?

Thanks!
