Need some recs for a nice French restaurant. Help? :-)

KK | Sep 26, 200403:01 AM     8

Another birthday gathering is coming up, and this time we have around 2 weeks to make a reservation.

I'm looking at what's available on opentable.com and there are already some of the more well known ones that have no tables available (Oct 9 or 10).

Are there any highly recommended French restaurants (SF or Peninsula area) that are as good as A16, Incanto type of Italian restaurants? Fresh ingredients and great tasting French food is what I'm mainly looking for, but hopefully not too draining on the wallet? Wine selection is not important at all, but the restaurant must have good selection of vegetable or meat dishes (for poultry, chicken only). I don't mind suggestions for some of the higher end or pricier places, as I may have to consider those as well.

We were at Masa's about a year or two ago. Nice but not sure if we want to do it again. Gary Danko of course is super but maybe not this time. Last time at Fringale was not bad, but not great.

Thaaaaaaaaaaaanks :-)
