So after all these years, my tastebuds have decided that they now hanker for good/great Mexican food. It's not that I had anything against the cuisine, it's just I usually ate it sparingly and often times relegated myself to simply fast-food offerings (aghast!). I guess my tastebuds never got excited for the stuff before now. So now I'm challenged. I realize we live in perhaps one of the best areas in the US for Mexican food, but I have no idea where to begin. I have been to a handful of taco trucks and taquerias (e.g., El Gran Burrito) over my time here in LA, often drunk and looking for something to absorb the massive amounts I had drank earlier in the night with my buddies - now I need suggestions and I want to really give it the college try.
I am not really ready for mole yet, but I'm down for tripas and lengua. Tell me where you would take someone like me for a primer on what LA has to offer in terms of mexican food? I am a fan of carnitas and good asada, and I'm just getting into al pastor. Any suggestions are appreciated. Gracias.
