Last friday went to Cathedral of St. George--256 S. 8th St.--Phila.--215-922-9122 and had the best Greek Comfort Food in a long time. They are only open on Fridays for lunch 11:00am to 1:30pm--we got there at 11:45 and by noon it was packed. My husband had the Vegetarian Platter $6.00 --Fava Beans with Articokes and a piece of Spanakopita(spinach pie) very very good. I had baked Salmon with roasted mixed veggies and lemon roasted potatoes $7.00(the highest price on the menu) it was yummy. For dessert we shared a piece of Baklava and Kataifi and Galaktoboureko(it is a dreamy phyllo dough tube stuffed with farina custard)The best and freshest Greek Baked goods I've ever had. They make all the food at 6am that morning so everything taste so fresh. And did I mention that all of the pastries are only $1.50. Bought some to take home for the kids and also a loaf of Greek sweet bread $3.00. With your meal you get a salad and some greek bread too. People around us were eating Mousaka(Baked Eggplant and potatoes with a meat sauce) and Pastitsio (Baked Macaroni layered with meat sauce ) and Lemon Roasted Chicken and Lamb Shank with Orza Platters($6.00 each)--will go back after lent and try some of the meat dishes for sure. Wish they were open everyday. Happy Eatting at Lucia's on thursday--sorry to miss it but will be at another italian rest. for my Mother's Bithday! Let me know how you all liked it.
