Ramen @ Suzu Noodle House, SF

Melanie Wong | Dec 8, 200410:55 PM

This newish noodle specialist in SF’s Japantown offers one ramen on the menu, plus occasional daily specials, as well as other Japanese noodle dishes. The ramen noodles are fresh, produced to spec, and I asked for mine firm. The fresh-tasting, light-style broth was relatively greasefree, pleasant on entry, but with little depth or finish. The noodles were al dente and slick in texture, but suffered from an odd ammoniated aroma that didn’t dissipate. While tasty, the one slice of roast pork was pretty stingy and the toppings of scallions, seaweed and a couple strips of fermented bamboo were spare too.
