Quick Big Island report

Canoe House: everything you'd expect, not bleeding edge but excellent, and Oh, what a setting!

Cafe Pesto (Kawaihae): much more expensive than a couple years ago. Food is still very good, but it seems to have lost some soul, somehow.

Tex's: The malasadas (with either strawberry or custard filling) are one of the best pastries I've ever tasted. The lunch-type food is good local food, with burgers on homemeade buns. The chili dog is about a half-pound dog with a bowl of (average) chili poured over it; fork food, not finger food.

Mamane Bakery: sweet, moist coffee cakes and banana nut bread. You won't find better anywhere, only just as good.

We ate elsewhere. but nothing worth commenting on.
