A few tidbits. First, I was about to recommend Flan on another thread, and when I went to the website to doublecheck the hours, I found this: http://www.flanrestaurant.com/ Gah, I have so many feelings about this! First, epic rant! Second, noooooooooo! Third, some of those comments are quite interesting. Overall conclusion: whatever the owners of Flan have or haven't done, the closure of the restaurant is a blow for the downcity food scene. I hope they get it together and come back soon--I need my snail fix.
I was unbelievably disappointed when I learned that Chef Rizwan Ahmed was to close his refined Bristol eatery, Hourglass Brasserie, in September. Chef Riz's plans were up in the air. He said he was considering a move to Providence or possibly even farther afield (I think he mentioned Bermuda at one point--horrors!) Well, it looks like he's back with a food truck--Rhode Rage serving "global haute-cuisine." The menu can be seen here: http://www.rhoderageri.com/ It sounds amazing, but quality and consistency can be difficult to maintain with a food truck. Still, I can't wait to eat his food again soon.
And it's been mentioned elsewhere, but in case anyone is actually tracking these threads for openings and closings, Sushi Yama in downcity is CLOSED. Was it even open 6 months?? All in all, this was a very very bad month for downcity dining with the loss of two bright lights.
