the new french place on smith and degraw was pretty abysmal for brunch on saturday. It just opened but my girlfriend had a craving for croissants so we decided to try it. the service was probably the worst ive had all year. the older woman who ran the place took 5 minutes to remember that she asked if we wanted a table for 2 as we stood around waiting.
the menu is incredibly mundane with mediocre norwegian eggs served on a slice of brioche instead of english muffin. i had the croque monsieur which was open faced and merely okay.
what bothered me most was the lack of air conditioning in the place. i had to walk out 4x to cool off from the heat in there. i mentioned it to the woman as we left and she sort of joked that it gets hot in the summer. she then proceeded to spill some sugar on my sweaty arm.
the pastries were pretty bad...including a chocolate layer cake that was nearly frozen on top.
as eater would say: 'deathwatch.'
