Poor roast duck at 99 Ranch (Daly City)

svL | May 9, 200402:25 PM     10

Yesterday, on my way home coming back from Pacifica, I stopped at the 99 Ranch Market in Daly City and picked up a Chinese roast duck from their prepared food department. I've shopped at 99R before but never a take-out. Well, the duck ($9 for the whole duck) turned out to be surprisingly bad; all skin, fat and bones with little meat. Generally we get very good roast duck either in the Sunset (the restaurant at Irving and 23th; I forget the name) or Chinatown (shop at Stockton and Broadway), but 99R's was so bad that I had to share the experience here.

Was I just unlucky by getting a low quality bird (it was in the afternoon) or is 99 Ranch (Daly City and/or the other stores in the chain) known to be bad for takeouts?

On another topic, in the same shopping center, there is a new fairly large dim sum restaurant that was closed in the afternoon but looked like it was already operating in the morning and probably for lunch. Has anyone tried it yet?
