Grandparents, parents and six-year-old daughter are making a weekend pilgrimage from New York to the American Girl store (111 East Chicago Avenue), staying near Hubbard and State. We would appreciate any recommendations that would keep us all happy (nothing too exotic or cutting-edge; nothing too expensive or greasy-spoonish). Either walking-distance options or recommended neighborhood strategies would be most appreciated. Bonus points for quintessential Chicago: dishes/cuisines that are better in Chicago than NY. Thanks.
