My wife and I are driving from Boston to South Jersey and are looking for a way to break up the long trip so that our 9 month old son won't be strapped into a car seat for 6 hours. I was thinking that we could stop in New Haven, since it's about the 1/2 way point in the trip, feed him, get something to eat ourselves, and give him a chance to stretch. I've been to Pepe's several times and, though I'm kicking myself as I write, I don't want to go there (actually, we'll probably be there before it opens, anyway), or any "nice" sit-down place for that matter.
What I'm thinking of is a place to get some good food to go (could be anything, from a sandwich, salads, or any ethnic food that's good in New Haven), and then find a nice place to sit and have a picnic. I suppose the other option would be a diner (I'd be thrilled to find a diner in that area). We'll be traveling on a Sunday, and will probably get to the New Haven area around 12 noon.
Any ideas, both for food, and, in the case that we do a picnic, a nice place to eat outside?
