Pizza-by-the slice crawl on Franklin St. Chapel Hill

bbqme | Jun 30, 201609:27 AM     33

Our first stop was Artisan Pizza Kitchen. Pros were that the toppings were very generous and slices are reasonably priced; cons are that the crust drooped and sagged and it was oily. Next stop was Benny Cappella's (new?). Pros were that the crust was good and the slices are large; cons are that it's pricey and my slice was too salty. The third stop was Italian Pizzeria 3. Pros: good crust and very fresh tasting toppings; Con: the slices could be larger.

IP3 was the clear winner, with Artisan edging out Benny's for 2nd place. I have tried the place next to Ben & Jerry's already and didn't like it at all. I think Mellow Mushroom sells slices but it's more of a sit down restaurant. I would rank it behind IP3 among this list. If there are other locations that sell pizza slices on Franklin St. that I should try point them out and I'll give them a try and update my ranking accordingly.

My favorite place is still Alfredo's Pizza Villa, especially when Alfredo himself is making the pies, but of course that's at University Mall.
