Okay, I am a fan of Settebello. Huge fan. More times than not, I get the Margherita. Yeah, I guess I am a purist. Today, however, I veered from the norm and ordered their weekly special - the Pizza de Michele (although on the board the name started with a "C", I think) and what was in the email was a little different than what it said on the board as far as toppings. I believe that this pizza is copied from the famous Pizzeria da Michele in Naples.
This pizza comes with thinly-sliced roasted potatoes, mozzarella, "caramelized onions" although they were very lightly caramelized without color and still crunchy, oregano, basil, crushed tomatoes and olive oil. I ordered it a little well done and with the tomato sauce on the crust vs. dabbed on top of all the other toppings in spoonfuls.
The pizza arrived after a few minutes. I took a bite. Wow! This was GREAT!! Added some crushed peppers and ate some more. Then added some of the freshly-ground pepper and salt. BONANZA! I swear, I was in heaven. I was telling the waitresses (Erin, one of my favorites and Pilar, who is quickly becoming another favorite) how delicious it was. It was really good. As I am typing this, my mouth is watering.
They do not make this pizza all the time. In fact, I don't remember ever seeing it. If you have the chance, run, don't walk to Settebello to try this pizza. It is a true masterpiece. I will definitely be back at least one more time this week (they will stop serving it as the weekly special on Monday - the next weekly special starts on Monday or Tuesday).
I wish I had my camera. However, I am going to try to attach the pic that came in their email for your viewing pleasure. Sorry if it doesn't work.
