pizza republech

Went to Pizza Republic yesterday on Beacon st. just outside of coolidge corner. Spent some time looking over the menu, which is your basic italian panini sandwiches, then gourmet pizzas, salads, and pastas. You can make your own pasta/pizza with whatever ingredients you like, or you can pick ones they've already put together. I decided to try the Eggplant Arrabiata, with high hopes that were sadly dashed. blech. This place is nothing to toot your horn about, the only thing angry about this dish was me. It wasn't really a sauce, to begin with, which sometimes can be good, in this case, it wasn't. It was some tomatoes, tons of capers, and was just generally salty and mushy. The pasta itself was just eh. The eggplant was alright, but the overall badness of the dish detracted from it. With all the other lunchtime standards I have on my list, this place will not make the cut. I won't be going back, but will be interested if anyone else does, or happens to go, and finds something desirable on the menu. Then I might give it another try.
