Last night I tried the new Pho Cafe on Sunset Blvd. at Parkman in Silver Lake, in the same mini-mall as Rambutan Thai. The stark white diner design with orange plastic chairs and futuristic light fixtures looks like it was conceived as a backdrop for the local hipsters, although the menu seems like pretty standard pho. There's hot noodle soup with beef, chicken or vegetables; cold noodles with same; and spring rolls. That's about it. Everything's around $5-7. There's Vietnamese sodas, too. Beer is on the menu, but they don't have their liquor license yet, so people were bringing in beers and two buck Chuck to have with their pho. I'm no pho expert but the flavors seemed clean and the vibe was fun. I think they're open until midnight and apparently it's already packed on weekends, even though there's not even a sign in front yet. Where on earth do all these people come from?
