Phil's Original vs. Dipamo's Barbecue

Mike | Mar 13, 2006 09:06 AM

Had a major bbq craving over the last few weeks, and knowing a bit of the history between Phil & Dipamo, wanted to settle for myself which one was the better place for bbq.

I'll break it down:

Pork Ribs: Advantage Phil's, fattier and more moist and tender than Dipamo's
Brisket: Definite advantage to Phil's, you can cut his brisket with a fork, Dimpamo's was way more tough, though both had great smoke flavour
Pulled Pork: Again, advantage Phil's, I liked Phil's sauce more..
Chicken: Advantage Dipamo's, wonderful smoky taste and tender texture, Phil's chicken tended to be dried out a bit
Pit Beans: Advantage Phil's: I have no idea what he does to those beans, but wow, I love 'em.
Sides: Definite advantage to Dipamo's, chips, fries, jalapeno corn bread, grilled veggies, all delicious
Atmosphere: slight advantage to Phil's, mainly because I enjoy the jazz music they play
Service: no preference either way, both are efficient and friendly establishments.

So, for meat (pork & beef), Phil's wins, but Dimpamo's is no slouch either, the chicken is amazing, and the sides are great.
