Pesce Blue, Portsmouth NH, review

Had a fantastic meal at Pesce blue the other night... wonderful team service, never letting our wine glasses go empty. Wife and I enjoyed the Yellowfin tuna tartar and an octopus salad. The tartar was mindblowing, the melt in your mouth tuna contrasted with the minced cucumber nicely and the avocado added the great creamy taste, a nice sized portion with some fresh herbs on the side.. awesome... the grilled octopus sald was fantastic.. baby greens with perfectly grilled octopus, simple but perfect for the warm evening; had a tasty viniagrette with capers which added the nice kick, but not too tangy...

followed by some fresh anchoives quickly and lightly fried served with a basil aioli.. simple peasant food done well, although I am not sure if the aioli was homemade or bottled and mixed with chopped basil and basil oil.... also enjoyed the baccala which was breaded with what we thought was panko, but actually was philo dough which was either ground after baking it or cut up, cooked and then breaded around the fish.. not sure, but it was a nice surprise and wonderful texture. I cant remeber what it was served with, but it again was simple/beatiful presentation.. we always have fun trying to guess the ingredients and thought for sure it was panko... what fun!

all of the dishes were relatively simple (except for the tartar), as mediteranean cuisine should be, but perfectly cooked, presented and served...

a very nice night, reasonable prices and yet another fantastic restuarant in this great town.. we just moved here and are loving all the great cuisine (quite a change from the boston metro-west)...
