We scored an early reservation this past weekend and were excited to see the new incarnation of Persimmon in Providence.
Located on Hope St, closer towards the Fox Point area, this new location is so much bigger in size than the quaint formal style of their Bristol home. Polished floorboards and big windows fill the semi casual dining room with lots of natural light, but their familiar orange door still welcomes you.
The menu is broken into sections based on the main ingredient of the dish, for eg meat, fish/shellfish, vegetables...instead of appetizers and mains. This is then leads one to look at prices to see which meals are bigger or small bites. I say bites as though the plates are artfully presented, are rather small ($12 for a cold boneless chicken wing and a coddled egg with a scattering of mushrooms and scallions, are we paying for that new sous vide machine?)
We ordered a good selection of plates to share but honestly were very under whelmed with the meals. Overly salty and needing a punch from a bit of acidity or brightnesswas was the main complaint. Somehow this establishment misses the mark and hopefully in time, the kitchen gets into the a better rhythm.
Maybe we were too early to the gates, but I do hope they get their act together soon.
