[PDX] - Mardi Gras Kitchen - Food to Geaux

This is a tiny takeout place downtown on the corner of Pine and 6th run by the Acadia folks (the cajun place up on NE Freemont).

The po' boy special was roast beef and I thought I would try it, $6 being reasonable, and I have wanted to try this place for a while.

It is a large sandwich packed with meat for $6. The roll seemed right, the meat was in a gravy that smelled delicious...and then I took a bite when I got back to my office.

OMG...saltier than...well, salt. I could barely swallow the bite. I couldn't believe that it was so salty I couldn't eat the thing....so I let it sit for a minute while I worked a bit and went back to it, taking a bite of meat with a fork from another part of the sandwich.

Please, no lectures on repeating the same action and expecting different results...I DO know better, yet all of that knowledge left me for a moment...and it does help that I was really hungry and that the thing smelled pretty darn good.

I do not know whether this was an anomaly or not...I'm not likely to try again, though. The sandwich was INEDIBLE! I mean, the meal I had at the Salt Fir (aka Doug Fir) was too salty but I could actually eat most of it. This was so ridiculously salty that it was not really fit for human consumption.

Next time I walk by there I might go in and say something...but it is unlikely that I will be taking a chance on anything else on their menu anytime soon...

Where is my water? I'm thirsty! ;o)
