Paw paws and baby kiwis @ Temescal & Ferry Plaza Farmers markets

rworange | Oct 5, 200703:01 PM

I was thrilled to see Lagier sells at the Sunday Farmers market and had paw paws last week. I wanted to try them for a while and always miss the season.

This week might be the end of paw paws for this season. They taste like ripe bananas with a mango texture.

Every year it seems Lagier can't give paw paws away, but according to this chow article there's a place selling a dozen for over $100 online

My Lagier paw paw cost 66 cents ... so a deal. Lagier sells at the Saturday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market on Saturday. The paw paws are mentioned in the CUESA newsletter this week so they will probably have them. If you are curious about them save yourself $100 and check them out at Langier.

Rancho Gordo's blog had some nice pictures.

At Temescal there was a vendor selling baby kiwis which are about the size of grapes with a smooth skin. You eat them skin-on and they have lime notes to them. They were 3 baskets for $6 which is a major deal because Berkeley Bowl sells them for some outrageous price. Last week for those too.
